Will I need to have teeth removed for braces?
In certain cases, it is necessary to extract teeth to achieve optimal results. However, thanks to the advanced orthodontic treatments now available, most patients will not need to have any teeth removed for orthodontic treatment.
How long will my orthodontic treatment last?
Your specific orthodontic treatment time will depend on your individual needs. Treatment usually ranges from 12 to 30 months with an average treatment time of 22 months with braces.
How much will my orthodontic treatment cost?
We will provide you with an estimate for your orthodontic treatment cost during your initial visit because we need to examine your smile before determining the needed treatment and associated costs. Our orthodontist and team will be happy to discuss the cost and your financial options with you during your appointment. If you have insurance, we will also help you understand your insurance benefits.
Do braces hurt?
Braces usually do not “hurt.” You may feel some soreness when your braces are first placed and after certain visits to our office for adjustments. If this is the case, over-the-counter pain medications like Tylenol or Advil can help to ease the discomfort. Most patients do not feel any soreness after most visits. Remember: “It does not need to hurt to work!”
Can I play sports while wearing braces?
Yes, you will still be able to play sports and enjoy all of your normal activities while wearing braces. Our orthodontist and team recommend that you use a mouth guard for all sports to keep your smile safe.
Do I need to see my family dentist during orthodontic treatment?
Yes. It is very important that you maintain routine appointments with your family dentist while wearing braces. Your dentist will determine how often you should visit for regular cleanings during orthodontic treatment.
Is it too late to get braces if I am an adult?
It is never too late to straighten your smile! In fact, approximately 25% of all orthodontic patients are adults. Our team will help you find the treatment you need to achieve a straighter smile.
Are there foods I cannot eat while wearing braces?
Yes. Some foods can damage your braces, so it is best to avoid them during your treatment. Our team will provide you with a list of foods to avoid, which includes ice, sticky foods (like caramel and taffy), hard candies and other hard foods.
